Disney and the Nazis: The Unauthorized Book Disney Doesn't Want You to Read: Disney in WWI

Image
Disney in WWI To understand WWII you have to first look at WWI. Many historians consider WWI to be merely the precursor to WIII or the two wars to be one war with a temporary cease fire. Walt Disney would take part in the war to end all wars and it would have a huge impact on him for the rest of his life. At a young age Walt Disney was patriotic. While in high school Walt would draw patriotic cartoons for his high school newspaper. It is not surprising then that would want to join the war effort. It may seem odd in modern times that people were so eager to go to war but we have changed as a society a great deal since then. The history of man is often changed by technology and in modern times the technological changes happen so rapidly that studies show we are not actually able to keep up but are behind what technology can do. This has changed us a great deal. Throughout history however war has been glorified and was a means to gain wealth and power. This idolized view of war was ...

Disney and the Nazis: The Unauthorized Book Disney Doesn't Want You to Read Introduction

Image
Introduction Nazis will forever be associated with evil. Disney however is often associated with saccharin family friendly entertainment. The two seem to be diametrically opposed to one another. Yet a quick search online for Disney and Nazi comes up with a wide range of sites with varying topics. There are many claims made about Disney and the man and the companies connection to the Nazis. But what is truth and what is fiction. Is there any truth to these claims? Was Disney a Nazi-sympathizer? Was Disney an Anti-Semite? You are most likely reading this for one of two reasons. The first is hope you that Disney really was pro Nazi. You want to hear obscene gossip. You want Disney to have a dark past. Then there are those that are tired of hearing from the rumormongers. They want to put an end to the anti-Disney claims once and for all. Both may be afraid that what they will find in this book will do the opposite of what they want. This book does not pick sides. It will look at real...

A History of All Atari Made Atari 2600 Games Introduction

Image
Introduction The Atari 2600 was one of the most popular consoles of the second generation of home consoles. For a time Atari was the king of the video game industry. At one time Atari had been the fastest growing company. The Atari 2600 was the first console system for many people. This book covers all the games that were made by the Atari company itself for the 2600. The Atari 2600 was released in 1977. At first, Atari was the only company to make games but over time more and more firms would come in and make games for the system. This is part of what lead to the Video Game Crash of 83. The Video Game Crash nearly destroyed both the arcade and home consoles. The Atari 2600 would ride out the storm and continue until 1992 when the system was finally discontinued. It would be one of the longest lasting consoles. It would last long enough to not only see the third generations of home consoles but the fourth generations as well. You may see some patterns emerge as you read about eac...

Camp Full Moon Chapter 2

Image
Chapter 2 Robert boarded the bus, feeling a sense of excitement mixed with trepidation. He looked around and saw a sea of unfamiliar faces. Most of the kids seemed to know each other, chatting and laughing as they found their seats. Robert found an empty seat by the window and sat down, feeling a bit lonely and out of place. As the bus pulled out of the station, Robert looked out the window, watching as the buildings and houses of the town slowly gave way to forests and fields. The scenery was beautiful, but Robert couldn't help feeling a little homesick. He wondered if his family and dog were doing okay without him. Suddenly, a voice interrupted his thoughts. "Hey there! Mind if I sit here?" Robert turned and saw a boy with a friendly face and curly brown hair. "Uh, sure," he said, scooting over to make room. "I'm Hunter," the boy said, extending his hand. "I'm Robert," Robert replied, shaking his hand. "Nice to meet you, R...

Camp Full Moon Chapter 1

Image
Chapter 1 Robert couldn't believe that summer camp had finally arrived. He had been looking forward to this day for months, counting down the days on his calendar, dreaming of the adventures he would have and the friends he would make. Now, as he stood in his bedroom surrounded by his bags, he felt a mixture of excitement and nervousness. What if he didn't make any friends? What if he got lost in the woods? What if something terrible happened? But Robert pushed those thoughts aside and focused on the task at hand. He had to make sure he had everything he needed for camp. He checked and double-checked his list, making sure he had his sleeping bag, his flashlight, his water bottle, and his lucky rock. He packed his favorite books and comics, his Frisbee, and his baseball glove. He even packed a small photo of his family and his dog, Sparky, to remind him of home. As he zipped up his last bag, Robert heard the sound of his parents and sister downstairs. He took a deep breath and...

Scary Adventures and the Evolution of Disney’s Dark Rides Reviewed

Image
The first couple chapters of the book offered a good glimpse of the history of dark rides. I did not learn anything new though. In fact there were a few things I was disappointed by. They do not mention some of the earliest dark rides which used donkeys to pull the carts. They discuss the Buffalo Pan-American Exposition ride A Trip to the Moon but there were dark rides before it. It also mentioned Blackpool’s Ghost Train as the first Ghost Train but Pratter also makes that claim. While I side with Blackpool since there is some debate the two should both be mentioned. We then learn about the Disney dark rides starting at Disneyland. Again I would have liked a little more information. For instance Mr Toad’s Wild Ride is only about a page long and did not include things like that it had originally been planned as a roller coaster. I was at first surprised how short some of the other major rides like the Haunted Mansion were but later found that was because they were covered in grea...

Star Wars Ghost Series Action Figure

Image
(Photo by this guy ) Hasbro has just announced the Star Wars Ghost Series. With losses thinks to The Last Jedi Hasbro decided they needed to change things up. They will be releasing the new Ghost Series. These figures will feature the ghosts from Star Wars.  Hasbro learned their lesson from the last film. They are now targeting both the younger audience that first was exposed to Star Wars from episode 1-3 as well as the generation that started with episode 4-6. They are including both versions of Anakin. They lost so much money from the last film they are doing things to cut costs. Unlike the last force ghost action figures made in the past these cards will feature nothing inside the bubble. By not making actual figures Hasbro expects to save a ton of money.  Fans were expecting the series to be very limited with only a few known force ghosts. However Hasbro announced they will be including many other Star Wars ghosts like the ewok that dies in Return of the...

Knott's Berry Farm The So Cal Secret

Image
Everyone in the world knows Disneyland. Most people in the US know Universal's. Coaster enthusiast know Six Flags Magic Mountain. Knott's Berry Farm is less well known than these other parks. That is why I like to think of it as the So Cal secret. Many of you know Disneyland claims to be the first theme park but Knott's claims to be America's first theme park. Knott's certainly did open before Disneyland. The only real question is if was an amusement park or a theme park then. It certainly had a wild west theme but is a single theme enough to qualify as a theme park. Actually I think it does since there are other parks that have one theme and call themselves theme parks. I think it would be better to say Disneyland is the first mute-themed theme park. Growing up in LA what I liked about Knott's was that it was in between Disneyland and Six Flags. When you get to be an older kid Disney loses some its of its magic. You gravitate toward the extreme thrills like you...

Was Mickey Mouse Inspired By The Bible?

Image
You may be surprised to hear but it is possible that Mickey Mouse may have been inspired by the Bible.  When Mickey was first created there were some other anthropomorphic cartoon characters but they usually still looked mostly like the animals they portrayed and often acted like animals. Mickey Mouse was the first cartoon animal to talk. His ability to talk made him unique at first. This is where we can see the best correlation to Mickey Mouse and a Bible story. You might think that if Mickey was the first talking cartoon animal he might have been the first talking animal. This is not the case. The Biblical book of Numbers talks about Balaam and his talking Donkey. This is an obscure story for most modern readers. Disney was not a modern reader though. He may very well have heard the story of Balaam as a child. There are even pseudographic writings of the apostles baptizing animals and them walking on 2 legs and preaching about God. It is possible but unlikely he hear...

Forgotten Game Shows: Video Power

Image
(Image copyright  Bohbot Entertainment/Saban Entertainment) If you want to relieve your childhood from the 90s you have to check out Video Power. You can find the show on Youtube. It is worth watching just the intro for the 90's music nostalgia. Video Power ran for only 2 seasons but it had over 100 episodes in its short life. The show had kids answer video game related trivia and play video games. The first part of the show introduced the host Johnny Arcade and had kids try to stump him with their questions. The show also featured some segments where Johnny Arcade would give game playing tips. Next players competed in a video game for a high score. This would eliminate players. The 2 top scores would go on to compete in a video game quiz. They would then face off in another video game round. The player with the highest overall points went onto the final round. The final round was a kids dream come true. They had between 30 and 41 seconds to run through an area covered in...
